So relatable! I completely sympathize!! OMG waiting drives me up the wall! Thankfully, I always remember to bring a good book, and snacks! (Whaaat? A book? Do you ever see anyone reading a book in the waiting room?) Yeah, and that paper covering is such a drag, my cheeks stick to it every time, there's nothing comfortable about it. I think the longest I waited was the time my Gyn-lady took off to deliver a baby, and she came back very apologetic, (thankfully, someone came and let me know where she was, I was given an option to leave, but I stuck it out.) It was close to an hour. (When she delivered my son, she walked in just in time to "catch" him, she delivered the placenta, and I cut the cord (because my Fred was too confused in that "you want me to do what?" deer in the headlights moment, the poor thing, barely 20 years old!) Before she left she had to give me 7 stitches, then the Gyn-lady was done and went back to her office, while a swarm of nurses and a resident student doctor finished up everything else. Honestly, I would rather go to the Gyn-lady appointment than to the dentist, it's the noise and that they are in my face, with their hands in my mouth, and my jaw always locks up after they're done. I'm always canceling them. I also dislike having a colonoscopy. I have one coming up next month...I have been blowing them off for two years, and I already changed the appointment once because they scheduled me less than a week before Christmas! (Can you say "Are you f**king kidding me, hell no!) I did not say that to the nice lady on the phone who was rescheduling me...but I'm very sure it was implied. I'm also sure that I was not the only one to reschedule during that time period.
I’m so glad you listened, what a surprise! (Also I feel a little exposed now knowing you caught one of my more unfiltered episodes 😅) Omg unreal that Gyn-lady sprinting between babies and office appointments sounds like something out of a medical drama they’d cancel too soon.
And yes, the dentist is the real villain - hands in your mouth, loud tools, locked jaw... hard pass. I had a dentist cut the inside of my mouth when I was a kid. It was so bad, blood was pouring out of my mouth. So now I won't even do a routine cleaning w/o the gas 😂
Also, props for being the kind of person who brings a book and snacks to the waiting room. I bring physical books with me to appointments sometimes and people look at me weird lol. I just love an actual book sometimes, not an electronic version.
It was the first time I received a notification that you posted an episode so it was a surprise. Listening to your recording yesterday helped me quite a bit, I had a bit of a meltdown because my wee donkey pitched another kick fit with the farrier, and so her hind hooves did not get trimmed again, which is not good. It seems like every time I get a new sedation product it stops working after awhile. I also had to fight with her to get the halter on, which is not pleasant, 117 lbs me vs 250 lbs donkey! And both of us are stubborn willful old ladies! It's looking like I'm going to have to have the vet come to sedate her for every farrier visit from now on, which is going to be expensive if I can get this coordinated, or I'll be trying yet another sedation product that won't work after two uses if I'm lucky. Other than this behavior issue with hoof trimming, she's a good girl, which is likely caused by a physical issue connected to her age and advanced Cushing's disease. It was a very disappointing outcome. Thankfully, the front feet were done, and there have been no issues with them, all very healthy little hooves. She is a good farrier, she trims the zebras hooves at the Zoo in Syracuse (they are sedated.) She's done good work for all the years I've had my wee girl, and it was so hard to find a farrier willing to work with a mini donkey, most farriers are men, and they don't do donkeys, so I can't afford to lose her.
I'm sorry the day turned into such a mess with your girl. What a letdown, especially when you’re doing everything you can and it still goes sideways. You’re clearly showing up for her in every way that counts, even when it’s a total grind. I hope something finally clicks with the sedation because sheesh, you deserve an easier time.
All the down time of any major medical procedure seems to be the worst part of it. Last year I had to undergo a hernia surgery. It was the first surgery I ever had and I was quite terrified to be honest. Thankfully a friend stayed in the hospital ward with me while we waited for the medications to kick in in preparation for the anesthesia. So we were able to converse and keep my mind occupied until then. But it must have been a bit over an hour before they wheeled me into the surgery room for the procedure. The entire time, I was still practically keeping my fingers crossed hoping to myself; "I hope I live to tell about this☹️
Damn, I get that. The waiting room before anything medical (I include the dentist) is its own kind of hell. No control, too much time to spiral. Having someone there makes all the difference. “I hope I live to tell about this” is a pretty accurate thought. Glad you made it through and got to tell it! That kind of fear doesn’t get enough airtime 😊
Definitely, I hope that I can get through the rest of my life without having to have another surgery that's for sure. But while I'm quite healthy for my age, I am almost 51, so that might not be a very realistic hope.
I hate going to the dentist too. Even getting my teeth cleaned can be quite torturous.
