I literally can't function without caffeine. It's only recently become a concern for me because since my mid-40s, it's been the case that the less caffeine I consume the lower my blood pressure will be. But I suspect this may have more to do with nervous system dysregulation rather than anything cardiovascular. Yet, any time I go without caffeine, even once the actual withdrawal symptoms are over, my moods and motivation suffer greatly as a result.

I started taking magnesium taurine supplements and my most recent blood pressure readings were very healthy, less than 120/80. So maybe the magnesium taurine supplements might be a way that I can continue having my coffee and green tea without the adverse effects on blood pressure. But a part of me worries that those healthy readings might just be flukes not related to anything, and that I should still consider quitting caffeine.

But yeah caffeine is my addiction and my relationship with it is complicated 😆

Thanks for listening! Caffeine is such a tricky thing. It keeps everything running smoothly until suddenly it doesn’t. Your awareness of how it affects you, from blood pressure to mood, shows how in tune you are with your body, which is such an underrated skill. The push and pull between what feels good in the moment and what might be better long term is something so many of us struggle with.

Great that magnesium taurine seems to be helping, and I understand the hesitation in trusting those good readings. Bodies can be unpredictable, and sometimes it’s hard to separate patterns from coincidence. Whatever you decide, you’re clearly approaching it with a lot of care and curiosity, and that’s what matters most.

Also, I love hearing about other people’s "complicated" relationships with food and drinks - makes me feel way better about myself 😂

Thanks, I always love listening to and reading your content. Maybe it's the Portuguese and Italian in me that makes me so hopelessly addicted to coffee 😆 I even have an espresso maker and a moka pot that have helped me survive moving to the Midwest from the Pacific Northwest a few years back. With all due respect, none of the coffee shops where I'm presently at are as good as the ones in Washington state 😆
